Ha' Penny Beach

South Shore

Ha’ Penny Beach (also known as Halfpenny or Manchineel Bay) is a stunning, mile-long stretch of white sand on St. Croix’s south shore. Accessible via a bumpy dirt road marked by pink pillars, it offers calm waters for swimming and is much less crowded than northern beaches.

Officially known as Protestant Cay, locals know Hotel on the Cay as a great spot for a family outing! Between Rolling Smoke BBQ, The Beach Bar, Volleyball, and Sol & Sea Watersports, this little playground has everything needed to make a day of it! Note: a short ferry ride is required; for a small fee.

Located on the west end of St. Croix, Rainbow Beach is a great spot to catch a sunset and hopefully see the elusive “green flash.” A popular spot for locals and visitors alike, be sure to enjoy a few cocktails, fantastic food, friendly service, and frequent live entertainment at Rhythms while there.

Located 2 miles east of Christiansted on Punnett Bay, Shoy’s Beach is a serene and less-traveled oasis frequented by locals. This well-protected spot has plenty of shade and places to relax, but note that it doesn’t have many nearby amenities. This is the perfect spot for the adventurous picnicker!

SMUGGLER'S COVE

EAST END

Tucked away on Knight Bay, almost to the easternmost boundary of St. Croix at Point Udall, lies Smuggler’s Cove. This hidden gem offers seclusion, white sand, wonderful swimming and snorkeling, and excellent views of Buck Island. Another beach where packing a lunch and beverages is needed, but the trek is well worth it.

So many within our wonderful community have focused efforts through organizations dedicated to providing the people, animals, and environment of St. Croix a better chance at success. It’s through assistance from the community at-large and visitors such as yourselves that these organizations survive.

The Children's Museum of St. Croix

The Children’s Museum of St. Croix is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing a multi-faceted, interactive, and creative space for children and families to discover a variety of learning experiences.

Primarily volunteer-supported, the museum also provides community outreach through the hosting of free pop-up exhibits at schools, community centers, and local events; always with the goal of sparking curiosity, imagination, and joy.

MY BROTHER's TABLE

My Brother’s Table was born in the aftermath of 1989’s Hurricane Hugo, which devastated the island of St. Croix.

Each weekday since, this entirely volunteer-based organization has opened its doors every weekday and offered a hearty, healthy lunch to anyone in need. No questions…no red tape.

MBT is currently developing a community food pantry program, a nutritious and fulfilling way to stretch the reach of caring more deeply and more accessibly into surrounding neighborhoods.

STX ENVIRONMENTAL ASSOCIATION

St. Croix Environmental Association (S.E.A.) was founded in 1986 and has been a pioneer organization in establishing a generational mindset toward environmental stewardship in our local community, with its principal focus on education for today’s youth; thereby ‘seeding’ a future of conservancy and care for our island home.

Championing initiatives from tree planting, mangrove restoration, conservation of native species, and numerous community outreach programs, S.E.A. is showing tangible results, island-wide.

RUFF START

As with many island communitites, St. Croix is no exception when it comes to canine overpopulation…
Ruff Start Underdog Rescue takes a unique approach in rescuing and housing at-risk strays at their always-at-capacity shelter, providing placement in local foster homes, all while dogs wait to be adopted and flown to their forever homes on their mainland. To further fundraising efforts, Ruff Start also operates Ruff Night Hair of The Dog Bar in Frederiksted, where proceeds go to support shelter activities.

SEA TURTLE ASSISTANCE & RESCUE

St. Croix serves as nesting grounds for several species of Caribbean Sea Turtles. As such, risk for turtle injuries runs high, especially on the north and west shores. Because these fragile creatures are endangered, general intervention by the public is illegal.

Through partnership with St. Croix Environmental Association and St. Croix Sea Turtle Project, S.T.A.R. has been established as a 24/7 hotline to assist in the care for entrapped, disoriented, sick, or injured turtles. Please call (340) 690-0474 if you see a turtle in need.
