CHARTERS

Fishing Trips (Up to 12 passengers). Captain, licenses, equipment, bait, and safety gear included. The boat will also provide ice, coolers, and drinking water. We are happy to clean your catch and send you home with some fillets ready to cook. Clients are welcome to keep up to 25lbs of whole fish. Start times are flexible and extra hours can be added provided no scheduling conflicts. If you are like us and too excited to sleep the night before fishing, ask about getting an early start. Depending on the season (especially for wahoo) this can be very effective.

Please note: charter price does not include gratuity for the crew (industry standard is 15-25% of trip cost). 20% of the charter cost is due at the time of booking to secure the boat.

Our fishing equipment is first class. We fish a variety of Penn, Daiwa, and Shimano products depending on the specific scenario.There are some big fish swimming around St. Croix so we use mostly 30, 50, and 80lb class gear. Pride is taken to perform routine maintenance so that when your trophy bites, the gear holds up!

4 Hour Half Day

On the 4 hour ½ day we can head offshore and try our luck with finding the pelagic species (mahi, tuna, and marlin) or stay a little closer to home and do some inshore/reef fishing (tarpon, snapper, jacks) while enjoying the sights of St. Croix’s beautiful coastline. This is a great option for the kids or new anglers who may still be working on their sea legs.

6 Hour Angler’s Choice

For the best opportunity to target St. Croix’s offshore pelagic species, we recommend booking the 6 hour Angler’s Choice charter. This amount of time allows us to get out there and cover enough ground to give the best odds of finding fish. The crew is able to try multiple tactics such as the “run and gun” method for mahi and tuna or trolling the ledge for structure-oriented fish such as wahoo, king mackerel, and barracuda!

8 Hour Marlin Trip

The 8 hour Marlin trip is for anglers who know that you must put in the hours to find the sea monsters. 8 hours gives us ample time to head offshore and cover different areas in search of your fish of a lifetime! Whether your target is billfish(blue or white marlin) or allowing plenty of time to track down the mahi and tuna, this is the trip for you. Please come prepared with food, drinks, sunscreen, hat and **sunglasses** as this is a lot of time on the water. Let’s go explore the deep blue.

Activities may include snorkeling, sightseeing, relaxing, fishing, freediving, lobstering, lion fish hunts, and more. Please let us know in advance which of these options interest you. Number of activities will vary upon trip length.

The boat provides masks, snorkels, fins, and flotation vests. Any fishing gear will be provided as well. For specialty, activities feel free to bring your own gear or contact us for rental options.

Choose Your Own Adventure

Down South Charters is much more than just a fishing company. Our passion extends to everything nature related. If you enjoy seeing what is under the waves just as much as above the surface, we are happy to customize a trip for you that includes a variety of activities. We can take a dip or “lime out” at any one of St. Croix’s many beautiful reefs or beaches. Cruising out west is a great option on the 6 and 8 hour trips, where you can enjoy snorkeling with friendly turtles at the Frederiksted pier or spending time on the wonderful beach at Sandy Point Wildlife Refuge (sight of filming for Shawshank Redemption closing scene). We can tour Salt River for an ecology/photography session and learn some of the vibrant history of St. Croix. Try your hand at spearing some invasive, yet delicious, lionfish or snaring Caribbean Spiny Lobsters to take home for dinner if you are into freediving. The possibilities are endless, so please let us know how we can customize a trip to fit your perfect day on the water.

Whether you want to enjoy some romantic time with your partner or just have a few laughs with friends and family, the sunset cruise is a great way to kick off your evening. Enjoy the beauty of our serene Caribbean sunsets as we make our way along the coast or find a private cove to anchor. Relax to the max while you wind down and let your worries drift away.

CROSSING

CHARTERS

Our sister islands of St. Thomas and St. John are located approximately 40 miles to the north of St. Croix. Travel time to make the crossing will be somewhere around 1 ½ to 2 hours each way depending on sea conditions. Your itinerary is variable depending on what your party would like to see. We can visit various beach bars and restaurants, snorkel, or cruise between the many islands. No passport is needed and we are free to island-hop within the USVI territory.

 Please make sure to bring sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses because this is a long day on the water. The boat will provide ice, coolers, and drinking water.

Exploring St. Thomas and St. John

Are you interested in exploring our neighboring islands of St. Thomas and St. John? They are approximately 40 miles to our north and well within reach of our 36’ yellowfin. Your itinerary may include snorkeling with the turtles at Maho Bay, grabbing some pizza at Pizza π, or visiting the floating taco bar at Lime Out VI. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the BVI with its 30+ islands. These trips allow enough time to cross and enjoy even more of what the USVI has to offer. Trips are weather dependent and your captain will be in touch to confirm as your charter approaches.
